what we do

coping with a personal crisis at work

Are you trying to cope at work whilst managing a personal crisis? Perhaps your marriage or relationship has broken down, you might have lost someone close,

you may have physical or emotional health challenges or something more brutal

or shocking could have happened to you. Maybe there is an ongoing situation

that has taken its toll. Yet you continue to go to work and try to behave as though everything is ok.

There are generally three identifiable stages to a crisis:

- the breakdown of an old way of thinking or being

- a period of intense disorganisation

- re-organisation into a new way

In the first stage of crisis, our deeply held beliefs are challenged and broken down.

“I can’t believe that she betrayed me”; “There can’t be a God after all”; “I’m now scared to walk down the street on my own”; “Nothing will be the same again”.

The second stage consists of an intense disorganisation which can take the form

of insomnia, fatigue, confusion, errors of judgement, diminished performance, accidents, indiscretions, even ‘moments of madness’. This behaviour can put

severe strain on relationships at home and work and can feel like a hazardous

place to be in.

Coaching for personal crisis management will help you to:

- feel less isolated

- give you space to reflect and review

- re-affirm your personal qualities and strengths

- identify and strengthen your coping mechanisms

- develop successful personal strategies for managing change

- create new, more supportive structures
